Biography of Dave Batista
David Michael Bautista Jr. is an American Professional Wrestler popularly known by his ring name Dave Batista. He is a son of Philippines origin father David Michael Bautista Sr. and Greek origin mother Donna Raye Bautista. He was born on January 18, 1969 in Washington D.C. He faced a very hard life right from his childhood as his family’s financial position was not very sound. He indulged in criminal activities when he stepped in his teen age; he became the motor vehicle thief at the age of 13. He was estranged from his family at the age of 17 and he began to live independent life which was full of struggle and trouble. He began to pursue a career in bodybuilding and worked as a bouncer in club at Downtown Los Angeles, California. While working as a bouncer he injured the two patrons very badly for which he was arrested and sentenced to one year of probation by the court.
To began as wrestler Batista visited World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and joined WCW’s professional wrestling training school WCW Power Plant. Trainer and wrestler of the Power Plant, Dwayne Bruce told him that he is not suitable for wrestling. He than visited Wild Samoan Training Facility and began the training from Afa Anoai (former wrestler). He made his wrestling debut by using the ring name Kahn from World Xtreme Wrestling (WXW) promotions in 1997. In 2000 he signed a contract with WWF (now WWE) and joined its developmental territory, Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) for training. In OVW he used the ring name Leviathan and joined hands with Kevin Fertig (Seven), Travis Tomko (Bane) and became the member of Disciples of Synn. He won the OVW Heavyweight Championship on November 28, 2001 by defeating Doug Basham.
In May 2002, Batista was absorbed by the SmackDown brand and he debut for SmackDown on May 9, 2002 episode. He used the ring name Deacon Batista in his matches for SmackDown. In his debut match Batista along with D-Von Dudley beats Randy Orton and Ron Simmons (Faarooq) in a Tag Team match. He wrestled for SmackDown for about six months and moved to Raw brand on November 4, 2002. He used the name Dave Batista instead of Deacon Batista in Raw brand. His first major win on Raw came on December 15, 2002 when he defeated Kane in singles match at Armageddon (2002). Batista joined hands with Ric Flair, Randy Orton and Triple H and formed the group Evolution on January 27, 2003. Soon after the formation of Evolution Batista remained out of action for about eight months after he injured his right triceps muscle in the match against Dudley Boyz.
Batista was back in action on October 20, 2003 episode of Raw when he interfered in the match between Bill Goldberg and Shawn Michaels, helping Shawn to won that match. Batista won his first championship title of WWE on December 14, 2003 at Armageddon where he along with Ric Flair beat Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) in Tag Team Turmoil match and won World Tag Team Championship. They lost the title to Booker T and Rob Van Dam on February 16, 2004 episode of Raw. Batista won the Royal Rumble match at Royal Rumble (2005) on January 30 by last eliminating John Cena. Batista faced Triple H in a singles match at WrestleMania 21 for World Heavyweight Championship. Despite the interference from the Ric flair Batista remains successful in defeating Triple H and become the World Heavyweight Champion for the first time. Batista successfully defend the championship at Backlash (2005) and Vengeance (2005) where he faced Triple H in both the events.
On June 30, 2005 Batista was drafted to the SmackDown brand after the 2005 WWE Draft Lottery. Batista faced John “Bradshaw” Layfield (JBL) at The Great American Bash on July 24, 2005 in singles match for World Heavy Weight Championship. JBL won that match after the disqualification of Batista. Due to the disqualification Batista title does not change hands but Batista was detained from the championship. Batista retains the championship in a rematch against the JBL at SummerSlam (2005). He beats JBL in No Holds Barred match and regains the title. Batista along with Rey Mysterio beats MNM (Melina, Nitro and Mercury) in Tag Team Match for WWE Tag Team Championship on December 16 episode of Smack Down. Batista injured his right triceps muscle in a match with Mark Henry on January 6, 2006. Batista was stripped of the World Heavy Weight Champion title on January 13 due to his injury. Batista remained away from the ring for about six months.
After the healing of his triceps muscle Batista returned to the action on July 7 episode of SmackDown where he attacked Mark Henry unexpectedly. Batista regained the World Heavy Weight Championship on November 26, 2006 at the Survivor Series. Batista beat Booker Huffman in a Last Chance match and become the Heavy Weight Champion for second time. Batista remained successful in defending the championship before the WrestleMania 23 but lost it to The Undertaker at WrestleMania 23. Batista made couple of unsuccessful attempts to regain the championship from Undertaker at Backlash (2007) and on May 11 episode of SmackDown. Batista regained the World Heavy Weight Championship at Unforgiven (2007) held on September 16. At Unforgiven Batista beat Rey Mysterio and the champion The Great Khali in a Triple Threat match and won the World Heavy Weight Championship for third time.
Dave Batista was drafted to the Raw brand after the 2008 WWE Draft Lottery that took place on June 23, 2008. Batista teamed with John Cena for World Tag Team Championship on the August 4 episode of Raw. Batista and John beat Cody Rohdes (Cody Runnels) and Ted DiBiase in a tag team match and won the World Tag Team Championship. Batista faced Chris Jericho in singles match for World Heavyweight Championship at Cyber Sunday (2008). Batista beat Jericho in that very close match and won the World Heavyweight Championship for the fourth and the final time.
Batista won the WWE Championship for the first time on June 7, 2009 at the Extreme Rules (2009). Batista faces Randy Orton at Extreme Rules (2009) in a Steel Cage match, in which Batista defeated Randy and become the WWE Champion. Batista once again moved to his intial brand SmackDown on September 18 and beats Chris Jericho in singles match. After moving to SmackDown Batista faced John Cena at Elimination Chamber (2010) in singles match for WWE Championship. In a one sided match Batista had beaten John Cena in just 31 seconds and became the WWE Champion for the second time.
Batista retired from WWE on May 24, 2010 and says a good bye to the professional wrestling. In his eight years of wrestling career with WWE he won total of ten championships title. He is a three time World Tag Team Champion and one time WWE Tag Team Champion. He is a four time winner of World Heavy Weight Championship and twice of WWE Championship.
